One drive is an event. A series of them is a movement. PickMyWaste’s next stop is Sobha Dream Acres.
Every e-waste drive starts the same way: a date, a venue, and a handful of volunteers hoping people will show up with their old electronics. What changes over time is what those drives add up to. One drive is an event. A series of them, each building on the last, becomes a movement. That is the story PickMyWaste has been quietly writing since its first collection drive, and the next chapter unfolds at Sobha Dream Acres on 26 September 2026.
Where This Movement Began
PickMyWaste’s first residential e-waste collection drive took place at Purva Fountain Square in Marathahalli. On a single Sunday morning, 32 households came forward with 250 kg of old electronics, laptops, chargers, cables, and other items that had been sitting unused, waiting for someone to make recycling easy. It was a modest number by any large-scale standard, but it proved something important: when a collection point is visible, simple, and well organized, residents are ready to participate.
That first drive shaped how PickMyWaste approached the next one. A second collection drive took place at Sattva Gold Summit on Hennur Road, once again bringing together residents who wanted a responsible way to clear out old electronics instead of letting them pile up in a cupboard or handing them off to an informal scrap dealer. Two societies, two successful mornings, and a growing sense that this was not a one-time initiative but the start of something PickMyWaste wanted to keep building.
From E-Waste to Community
At some point, our sense of obligation stretched beyond just collecting e-waste. When floods hit Sivasagar in Assam, affecting nearly 3.48 lakh people at their peak, the PickMyWaste team organized a relief initiative to support families who had lost their homes and daily essentials. Relief kits were packed and personally delivered to families in Sivasagar, a reminder that the same commitment behind responsible e-waste management, showing up consistently and doing the small things well, applies just as naturally to people in crisis as it does to old laptops in a drawer.
That thread, environmental responsibility and social responsibility as two sides of the same purpose, connects a flood relief camp in Assam to an e-waste drive in a Bengaluru apartment complex more closely than it might first appear. Both of them amount to the same thing: constant, visible activity adds up to more than any one thing.
What’s happening at Sobha Dream Acres?
The next destination on this trip is Sobha Dream Acres. PickMyWaste is conducting a society-wide e-waste collection drive here on 26th September 2026 between 9 am and 3 pm.
Residents can bring various items to the collection site, including:
Electronics & peripherals: laptops, desktops, displays, keyboards & printers.
Kitchen electronics: blenders, microwave ovens, kettles and other small equipment
Home electronics: irons, fans, routers and other accessories
Small devices: mobile phones, chargers, cables, batteries, headphones
One thing worth mentioning: This effort is paying cash for e-waste. It is not just about clearing out clutter responsibly; it is an incentive that rewards residents for choosing the right disposal channel instead of an informal one. Every item collected is processed through PickMyWaste’s structured, doorstep-pickup-first system: we collect, we recycle, and we care about where it ends up next.
Why a Small Step Still Matters
It is easy to assume that one household bringing in a single old charger will not move the needle on India’s e-waste problem. In isolation, that is true. But every drive PickMyWaste has run so far has depended on exactly that kind of small, individual participation, adding up morning after morning, society after society, to a measurable outcome. The 250 kg collected at Purva Fountain Square did not come from one large contributor. It came from 32 households doing their small part on that same day.
That is the idea behind calling every participant a Society Warrior. Your small step, one drawer cleared, one old phone handed over, becomes part of a bigger impact once enough neighbours do the same thing on the same morning. Long-term environmental change rarely comes from one big gesture. It comes from repeated, ordinary participation, and a society-wide e-waste drive is one of the simplest ways to take part in that.
