PickMyWaste organised a residential e-waste collection drive at Sattva Gold Summit, Bengaluru, on July 11, 2026. What began as a quiet morning turned into steady participation as residents dropped off cables, chargers, kettles, microwaves and other household e-waste, reinforcing that convenience, not willingness, is the real barrier to responsible e-waste disposal.
Earlier in June, PickMyWaste partnered with the residents of Purva Fountain Square in Marathahalli for a residential e-waste collection drive that collected over 350 kg of e-waste from more than 300 households. That drive proved a simple point: when we made responsible disposal convenient and visible, residents showed up for it. On July 11, 2026, we carried that same model to a new community, the Sattva Gold Summit society in Bengaluru, to see whether the pattern would repeat itself. It did, and this is the story of how the day unfolded.
The morning began quietly. The collection tent was set up, the banners were in place, and the team was ready, but for the first hour, the courtyard stayed empty. It is a familiar moment for anyone who has run a community drive: the volunteers are present, the setup is complete, and there is a brief, uncertain window where it looks like no one will turn up.
That changed steadily rather than suddenly. A resident walked up with a broken charger, unsure if it even counted as e-waste. Another followed with a bundle of old cables that had been sitting in a drawer for years. Within the hour, a small queue had formed, and what started as hesitant curiosity turned into a steady flow of participation for the rest of the day.

From the society, the collected material was transported to the segregation centre, where it was sorted by category ahead of authorized recycling. This is the part of the process that residents rarely see, but it is the part that determines whether a collection drive actually delivers on its environmental promise.
Segregation separates recoverable materials, batteries requiring special handling, and components that need controlled processing. Skipping this step is precisely how e-waste ends up in informal recycling channels, where hazardous materials are handled without safety standards.
